Meine van der Meulen
- Current Position:
- Research Fellow
- Research Interests:
- Dependability and safety of software-based systems
- Dependability of off-the-shelf systems
- Safety and dependability cases
- Design for dependability
Background:
Meine van der Meulen is research fellow at the Centre for Software Reliability at City University, a position he holds since February 2003. His research interests are in the dependability (reliability, safety, security) of computer-based systems. He has been involved in safety and dependability studies since 1988 when he joined the safety instrumentation depertment of Dutch Railways. After that he worked for the Netherlands Organisation for Applied Scientific Research TNO, where he performed safety studies for mainly chemical industry and off-shore operations. His last position before joining the CSR was at SIMTECH Engineering in Rotterdam, concentrating on safety studies in traffic (mainly railways, but also shipping) and infrastructure (mainly storm surge barriers). Meine van der Meulen shares the position at the CSR with a position as Senior Consultant at Adelard.
Meine van der Meulen holds an MSc degree in Electrotechnical Engineering from Eindhoven University, where he specialised in Measurement and Control. His thesis resulted in a patent on an algorithm to increase the speed of random access in a CD-ROM player. He also holds a degree in Dutch Law from the Dutch Open University.
Meine van der Meulen is a member of EWICS, the Dutch Society for Risk Analysis and Dependability, and the IEEE Reliability Society. He is member of the International Program Committee of the yearly Safecomp conference.
